My Glorious Return... With Fish Ass
I’ve been so busy with life and stuff that it’s been over 2 months since my last tumble. Oops. Anyway, yesterday I went candy shopping with @jackfrombkln at our favorite candy place. A place with a whole aisle of crazy candy, much of it labeled in foreign languages or, in this case, poor attempts at English. Would anyone care for some Jelly Fish Ass?   No, I didn’t actually...

THIS. And so much more. I’m so glad my livelihood does not depend on my ability to write coherently on this topic.

If you love cities....
Random: my new favorite podcast is Radiolab. It’s a perfect blend of smart, geeky infotainment. And so, as I do when I fall in love with something new, I’ve been going back and listening to the archives. If you love cities you MUST listen to this podcast on cities. At least once.  // ]] // ]]]]>]]>

I should've taken a picture
My plans for the day got all messed up. The snow… So I decided to go for a walk.  I got all bundled up and headed out, not quite sure where I was going.  Just out for a walk in the snow.  And then, well, it was coming down harder/faster/earlier than I realized.  I don’t know what possessed me, but I decided to head towards Times Square. I usually avoid that part of town like the...

I AM HOME
Got up early this morning to run errands and realized that (once again) I was out of coffee.  So I stopped at my corner bodega to grab a cup on the go. I walked in and heard the guy behind the counter say, “large coffee, milk and sugar?”. I’m finally home in my new apt.  The guy at the corner bodega knows my coffee order. Things are falling into place.

Do You Feel Safe Here?
Yesterday, as I was taking out the trash, I realized that some guy was watching me put the trashbag in the can in front of my building. He’d been walking past the building and then he just stopped and was watching me.  Like he was waiting. Which freaked me out. I didn’t recognize him and I wasn’t feeling chatty (me = dirty hair in a pony tail, sweat pants, not-so-clean t-shirt)....

Dear Non-Native New Yorkers
You know I love you.  This city wouldn’t be nearly as fabulous if it weren’t for all the amazing people moving here from all over the world, pretty much every day. And I’m not just saying that. But here’s the thing - fresh bagels don’t get toasted. Not if you’re eating them with cream cheese.  And I’m getting tired of having to point this out (note:...

I Will Never Forget
I wanted to not write about this today. To shake it off this year.  To stay outside and enjoy the sunshine. The sky is so blue. Just like that other morning.   I was at work. On the Lower East Side. Once news got around, work stopped and we all - hundreds of us - found ourselves out in the middle of the street watching the towers burn. I remember a couple of parked cars with their radios...

The headline is, Where Guacamole Does a Star Turn. And being the guac lover that I am, I read it right away. Now, let me be clear, Sam Sifton got it right about Toloache. The guac rocks. It’s just that he got everything else wrong. He’s starts with one of the least accurate statements I’ve ever seen in the NYTimes (and lord knows there’s plenty of competition for that...

I Don't Drive
I’m a non-driver by choice. That is, not only don’t I own a car, I don’t even possess a driver’s license.  And yes, I realize this marks me as a special kind of freak. As a non-driver by choice, there are very few places in the US that I could live and not have my non-driver-ness negatively affect my life. Some small towns, I guess. San Francisco, maybe.  And my home, NYC....
